Floramer, after my grandmother Flora and my initials MER combines ritualistic touch with science backed skincare treatments.
Skincare for me started with Estonian sour cream: yes, sour cream. It’s delicious, by the way, and very different from the American version. After a particularly long day at the beach when I was five years old, I suffered a severe sunburn. I cycled back home, beet red, and was met by my grandmother, who turned as white as a ghost when she saw my condition. I was rushed to bed, slathered in sour cream, and left to cool off with a prayer.
At the time, I thought, “Wow, this is absolutely cuckoo.” But what I noticed next was how quickly my skin started to calm down. I didn’t realize until later in life that the lipids and lactic acid in sour cream do exactly what the ceramides we so highly covet in our modern moisturizers do: they rescue and repair a broken skin barrier.
Years later, I woke up one day to find that the baby-soft, poreless skin I once took for granted was suddenly raging with cysts and excess sebum. Through years of trial, error, and eventually esthetics school, I realized what the skin craves most: consistency, simplicity, and calm.
That is exactly what I hope to bring to you. Through touch, we regulate the nervous system, and through science, we help the skin truly thrive.
